Don’t Stress. Just Progress; Finals Week

One:
Have Something to Look Forward to!!!!!
It can be easy to feel like you’re drowning in finals stress when there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. To avoid this phenomenon I like to plan something fun, like a trip or concert, that I can look forward to throughout the finals season or even going to dinner with my girlfriends one night a week. Having that event in mind makes me feel like I’m working towards something, and gives me a reason to smile and push through when I feel like finals will never end 🙂

Two:
Healthy & Regular Meals
Your body, skin, and mind will thank you for this one! Eat healthy, exercise daily, and sleep sleep sleep!! Eating healthy and cutting out the junk food will leave your mind and your body energized through out your long study days. Plus, when you’re living off of junk food and Chinese takeout your body isn’t functioning at its optimal level … meaning your study sessions are likely less efficient than they could be. I also find the simple routine of going for a quick walk or run helps me when a need to take a break.
Three:

Schedule, Schedule, Schedule
I cannot emphasize how much time management helps ease stress!!! If you’re a procrastinator like me, having a schedule ensures that you don’t leave studying until the last minute. It also lets you figure out when you have time for other things you need to get done, like laundry, cleaning, meeting with friends, and going to the gym.

Four:

Take Breaks
Once you’ve figured out a study schedule, make sure you take time to take breaks– and I don’t just mean 10-minute intervals. Finals season is extremely difficult with a heavy workload, managing your time as well as your break time helps a lot. Furthermore, having those breaks added into your schedule not only helps you avoid stress naturally by allowing your body to relax and recharge, but it also gives you something to look forward to during the week.
Five:

Don’t Cut Social Ties
Friends and family understand your busy and overwhelmed with work but that doesn’t mean you cant find time to hangout with them. When you’re stressed because you feel like you don’t understand something it can help to reach out to your study group, or a friend from class. On the opposite spectrum, however, when you’re just feeling generally overwhelmed it can be beneficial to talk to a friend or family member outside of school to get you through it!

Pay It Forward Challenge

One person cannot make enough of a difference to completely change the world, but if everyone made a difference for one person, the world would change.

Donate items to your local animal shelter or food bank, maybe even pay it forward and pay for someones coffee!

It feels good to make a difference in the world, even if it is something small. Have you ever wondered if anything you do or have done will be remembered? I do all the time and I think the idea of paying it forward could be something that changes someone’s life for the better. Even if everyone doesn’t remember you, the person you help does! I don’t know what will happen or even if it will be passed on to more than just a handful of people, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from trying. If you had an idea of how to change the world in a small way, would you try it? Well, here’s a chance! Try paying it forward! Feel good about giving back and doing something kind for the world.

Get Fit For Christmas Challenge

Exercise: 20 minutes every single day

Food: No desserts, no fried food, no alcohol (with one cheat day a week), 64 oz water a day!

Wellness: Meditate, pray, journal, get sleep!

Before declaring this challenge its important for you to figure out WHY you’re doing it. Do you want to get in better shape? Lose weight for the holidays? Or even just to strive to get a little more energy to your days?

Challenge yourself, when it gets tough and you don’t feel like finishing just remind yourself why you want to do this challenge, it will help you stick with it and keep pushing forward.

Get out there and move your body, work up a sweat! You will be feeling so much better incorporating just 20 minutes of exercise in your day and eating well. Prepare yourself for that Christmas dinner!

We’re challenging you to find your why and get on board. December 1st is coming up in a couple of days and this challenge will help you lose weight, get toned, feel healthy and have more energy!

Nov 27th- List two places you go to feel calm. Take 30 minutes to yourself today.

What are your favorite to places to go where you can feel calm and relaxed when life is stressful? It doesn’t have to be a fancy spa or a special vacation spot. It could be the museum, a church, or even your backyard!

Sometimes when we feel stressed its best to get a change of scenery and sit back and take a deep breath, it can go a long way. If that scenery is serene and beautiful, that makes it even better! This reflects off of our post about nature, getting out in nature is something wonderful and we highly recommend taking a moment out of your day. Relax for 30 minutes today in a special spot or a certain place you feel comfortable.

Its clear that tranquil spaces are good for your health. In todays society there are more trucks, cars, and motorcycles on the roads than ever before. This is why we recommend maybe taking a trip to a park, or somewhere away from all of the noise, pollution and litter.

Nov 20th – Enjoy Nature

We are challenging you to get out there and take today to put your cell phone down, put your laptop away, and set your work aside. Its coming to be obvious that the more high tech our society gets, the less we become attached to the wildlife and nature that is out there. We suffer somewhat a withdraw from nature because our daily lives are too embodied with social media, or work. Yes work is important, but if its a nice day outside, why not take a trip to the park and do your work outside? Nature can really heal a person, spending more time outdoors nurtures our “nature neurons” and our natural creativity. Nature can reduce depression and improve psychological wellbeing, joggers who exercise in a natural green setting feel more restored and less anxious, angry, or depressed than people who burn the same amount of calories jogging in a built urban setting!!

New ways are emerging to make that bond, such as family nature clubs, through which multiple families go hiking, gardening or engage in other outdoor activities together. Take the time to think about something fun to do outdoors, bring your family and your friends, plan a trip!

The right picture was taken in Skagway, Alaska! The only way to get to this specific place for a salmon bake I enjoyed, was to fly in and out by plane! The employees there only go into the town once or twice a month; talk about connecting with nature!!

Daves Dance Challenge!!

Our challenge to you – get out there and dance!!!

Whether you’re out at a party, in your room, or just with your friends! Dancing is a great form of exercise, it can be a fun way to get your mind off stressful things and it can even build confidence. As much as we all love to dance when there’s nobody watching, there’s something irresistible about dancing with other people. Anyone can just start to dance and enjoy the experience. Nervous about dancing in front of people? Start out in your own living room, moving to a song you just can’t resist. There’s a dancer in all of us! When we move our body to the music we naturally smile and want to keep moving, who cares where you are!

Post your pet day!!

Pets are awesome companions because they can aid in the prevention of loneliness and reduce stress. They also provide social support and encourage a healthy lifestyle, and can make your days brighter just by being around!!

This is my pup Heidi, an 11 month yellow lab. She is a big baby who always needs attention but never fails to put a smile on my face.

There is no truer expression than, “Dog is man’s best friend.”
